Roma, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station and Rio Grande Valley Sector’s (RGV) Special Operations Detachment rescued a family unit from a bee attack.
Agents encountered a family unit from El Salvador as a large swarm of bees attacked them. The mother, 13-year-old daughter and 10 year-old son had just been smuggled into the United States and immediately became overcome by bees. Responding agents utilized fire extinguishers to flush out the bees and extracted them to safety.
During the rescue efforts, an agent assigned to the RGV Mobile Response Team also sustained multiple bee stings. A Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provided immediate medical attention and requested Emergency Medical Services. The family and agent were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The Rio Grande Valley Sector currently has multiple campaigns focused on rescues and danger awareness, such as “Operation Big Rig” and “No Se Arriesgue” to combat smuggling and ultimately save lives. Call 911 to report suspicious activity; “They’re humans, not cargo!”
