Del Rio, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to Del Rio Sector arrested three convicted sex offenders in one day, March 25.
At approximately 8 a.m., agents assigned to the Uvalde Station arrested a man from Mexico, illegally present in the U.S., near Knippa. During processing, records checks revealed the man was convicted of sexual assault of two minors in 2014 and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. He was most recently removed from the United States in 2017.
At approximately 10:40 a.m., agents assigned to the Carrizo Springs Station arrested a large group shortly after they illegally entered the United States. During processing, records checks revealed that two men in the group, both from Mexico, had prior convictions for sex crimes. The first man was convicted of sexual assault of a child in 2015 and sentenced to five years probation. He was most recently removed from the United States in 2015. The second man was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in 2009 and sentenced to two years probation. He was most recently removed from the United States in 2009.
“These three predators had convictions for aggravated criminal sexual abuse and sexual assault of minors,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II. “We continue to see an increase in convicted sex offenders entering the country illegally and I credit our agents and law enforcement partners for quickly identifying them and ensuring that they do not make it into our communities.”
Since March 14, Del Rio Sector agents have arrested a total of seven convicted sex offenders.
As convicted felons, they each face a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – Re-entry After Deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
