Hidalgo, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge thwarted a smuggling attempt of alleged methamphetamine worth $2,283,000 discovered in the SUV a woman from Mexico was driving.

“This interception of hard narcotics is yet another example of our officers’ continued dedication to upholding our border security mission by interdicting dangerous drugs at the first line of defense, our country’s border,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.

CBP officers working at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on March 24, 2021 encountered a 34-year-old woman driving 2010 Ford Escape SUV arriving from Mexico and they referred her to secondary for further inspection. A thorough subsequent examination which included the assistance of a (canine team), resulted in officers discovering that the vehicle’s tires contained suspected narcotics. Further examination yielded 24 packages weighing 114 pounds (51.78 kg) of alleged methamphetamine.

CBP OFO seized the methamphetamine, the vehicle and arrested the Reynosa, Mexico resident who was turned over to the custody of agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) as they continue with the investigation.
