Roma, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations formally announced today at a change of command ceremony held at the Roma Independent School’s Performing Arts Center the selection of Andres Guerra as the new port director for the Roma Port of Entry. Guerra succeeds Crescencio (Cris) Cantu, the previous port director, who retired last year.

“I am honored to serve as port director in my hometown, the community in which I grew up in and am now in a position to apply all my past knowledge towards sculpting the port into a traveler-friendly yet enforcement-minded border crossing,” said Port Director Andres Guerra, Roma Port of Entry. “I am grateful to my predecessor, Cris Cantu, who mentored me and I will continue to serve this wonderful community and keep our trade partners, city officials and everyone else with vested interests informed on future goals and projects.”

Port Director Guerra began his career as a Customs inspector with the United States Customs Service in January 1997 and was assigned to the Roma, Texas Port of Entry. His success as an officer has been proven by numerous significant seizures over the years, which resulted in Guerra being awarded two Commissioner’s Unit Citations, two Commissioner’s Blue Eagle Awards and the Commissioners Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award in 2000.

In April 2003, while the agency was undergoing a historical unification and a new beginning, Mr. Guerra promoted to supervisory CBP officer, assigned to passenger operations and administrative duties. While Mr. Guerra had already established a strong insight of the Customs element of the new agency, a new challenge arose requiring a new level of proficiency in the duties and processes of the other legacy agencies that merged to form CBP.  It was very evident that Mr. Guerra not only adapted, but excelled in this new demanding task proving his versatile ability in the different processes during the early development of CBP.

Mr. Guerra promoted to chief CBP officer in December 2005 and was assigned to tactical operations.  As a chief CBP officer, Mr. Guerra directed the canine enforcement program, firearms division, anti-terrorism and Contraband Enforcement Team, Tactical Enforcement Unit.

In April 2013, Mr. Guerra accepted a promotion to assistant port director, passenger operations of the Roma Port of Entry where he oversaw passenger processing and passport control.  Andres Guerra was appointed as the acting port director at the Rio Grande City, Texas Port of Entry on August 31, 2015.  As the acting port director, Mr. Guerra was responsible for passenger processing, passport control and cargo operations at the port of entry.

In June 2018, Mr. Guerra was promoted to port director of the Roma, Texas Port of Entry. Port Director Guerra brings to the position the knowledge and expertise gained from more than 21 years of experience with CBP.   Port Director Guerra is a native of Roma, Texas and a graduate of Texas A&M University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science.

Mr. Andres Guerra is married to Mrs. Oneida Guerra and has three sons, Abram, Ivan and Lucas Guerra.
