Edinburg, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents stop five separate narcotic smuggling attempts.

On Monday afternoon, Fort Brown agents working near Brownsville, Texas, responded to the report of several subjects carrying bundles of narcotics. Upon arrival, agents apprehended a United States citizen and three Mexican nationals, each carrying a bundle of marijuana. The four bundles weighed over 46 pounds with an estimated value of $81K.

That same day at the Sarita checkpoint, Kingsville agents referred a Dodge Caravan to secondary inspection area after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the vehicle. During inspection, agents located 171 grams of marijuana and a stolen semi-automatic pistol along with six rounds of ammunition. The driver and passenger, both United States citizens, were arrested.

Hours later, Kingsville agents arrested a 25 year-old, United States citizen after locating nearly 100 pounds of methamphetamine concealed within the Toyota Sienna he was driving. The methamphetamine has an estimated value of $3.1M.

Yesterday, Rio Grande City agents responded to a report of a narcotic smuggling attempt near La Rosita, Texas. Responding agents observed several subjects carrying bundles of narcotics. Shortly after, agents spotted a vehicle leaving the area and conducted a vehicle stop. The driver and passengers exited vehicle and absconded back to Mexico. In the abandoned vehicle, agents found over 345 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated value of $276K.

This morning, Weslaco agents responded to a report of three subjects carrying bundles of narcotics. With the assistance of a helicopter from the Air and Marine Operations, agents located four subjects and four bundles of narcotics weighing nearly 300 pounds, worth an estimated value of over $237K.

All cases remain under investigation.
