Jackman, Maine - On July 29, 2018, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Jackman Border Patrol Station arrested three Guatemalan nationals near the Jackman, Maine Port of Entry. The three attempted to circumvent the port of entry in order to illegally gain entrance into the United States from Canada. None of the three had documentation that would give them legal right to enter or remain in the United States.

 Jackman Border Patrol agents were advised of suspicious activity on U.S. Route 201, near Sandy Bay Township. Responding agents located three subjects and conducted a brief immigration inspection. As a result of the inspection, agents determined the subjects were all nationals of Guatemala without legal status to be or remain the United States. All three were placed under arrest and transported to the Jackman Border Patrol Station for further processing.

Record checks at the Jackman Border Patrol Station revealed that one of the subjects was previously ordered removed from the United States, in 2013. He is being charged with 8 USC 1326, Re-entry of a Removed Alien. The remaining two subjects are being charged with 8 USC 1325, Improper Entry by an Alien. The United States Attorney, District of Maine, will conduct prosecutions of the three.

“This is a prime example of how important our partnerships with local law enforcement are,” said Jackman Station Patrol Agent in Charge Jeffrey Ewing. “It is unquestionable that Jackman is rural and heavily forested. Those may seem like desirable geographic traits for those considering an illegal entry into the United States however the U.S. Border Patrol and our partner agencies remain vigilant in our border security efforts and are prepared to intercept those who try to exploit any perceived vulnerabilities.”
