Del Rio, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents in Eagle Pass apprehended a previously deported sex offender Tuesday.

“Apprehensions like this highlight our border security efforts and the threats we face along the border,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Felix Chavez. “Our agents remain vigilant and alert to protect our communities against dangerous individuals.”

On Sept. 11, Border Patrol agents from the Eagle Pass Station arrested Miguel Diaz-Cardoso, 42, a Mexican national, near Quemado for illegally entry into the United States. During processing, agents discovered he has an extensive criminal history including a 2016 conviction in Montgomery County, North Carolina for a sexual offense involving a minor. He also has been removed from the United States on two separate occasions.

Diaz-Cardoso faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – Illegal reentry after removal, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

All individuals arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure those with criminal history or gang affiliation are positively identified.

The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. To report suspicious activity call the Del Rio Sector’s toll free number at 1-866-511-8727.
